LAL Annual Meeting : May 18, 5:30p, LAL @ Loudoun House
FY2011 Lexington Art League Board Nominees:
Sarah Davies
“One of my first memories of Lexington involved attending a terrific “4th Friday” during my first month in the community…As an arts professional, I appreciate that Lexington has an art community that is cultivating and actively developing art programming for the future with the involvement and guidance of the LAL…I believe that a Board of Directors is successful because each individual brings their unique skills to the group. I am an arts enthusiast, but can also contribute my creativity and visual problem-solving skills. As a business owner, I can bring my professional connections and as a volunteer, I ring my work ethic, commitment and team spirit to the organization. As a Lexingtonian, I bring my respect and enthusiasm for the LAL and consider it a great honor to be considered for Board membership.”
Sarah founded her own company in 2006, Sarah Davis Design. She has won many ADDY and other graphic design awards. Sarah’s company’s mission is do good work, for good people, doing good things.
Elizabeth Deener
“Through my parents, I have always been around art, and have been taught an appreciation for publicly accessible art. Indeed, that it needs to be accessible to the public whenever possible… I am familiar with the LAL as a Lexington native, have seen satellite exhibitions around town, and as a neighbor to the Woodland fair. My interest, though, in the LAL is deeper than that... After food and shelter, I believe art is necessary to a fulfilled life. I recognize that meeting this needs is more than finding an artist and giving her a canvas, or hanging pictures on the Mayor’s wall. Funding the arts is difficult during normal times, and becomes impossible when people and businesses are reducing their charitable giving, and then understandably choosing to feed and house their neighbors first. I understand the challenges, and I want to be involved and be of use; whether helping plan an event, reviewing by-laws, etc., or passing out programs at the Art Fair. After all, he also serves who only stands and waits.”
Elizabeth is an attorney with Landrum & Shouse and has an impressive record of volunteer work and community service going back to her middle school years. Elizabeth completed the United Way Get On Board program and served on the Advisory Board for the Robert Ferst Center for the Arts (Atlanta, GA).
Boris Zakic
“I have reviewed the LAL 5-year Strategic Plan and I am particularly drawn to its vision and to its forum-building possibilities. I am attracted to a number of areas: engaging in partnership with arts and non-arts organizations, higher education and public education institutions internships. I am drawn to the fostering of a network for artists and community groups that will grow more inclusive; and to monthly ARTalks, providing another learning environment for emerging audiences, especially with respect to the non-academic sector…I would be most interested in sustaining and growing [LAL’s] public prominence in the future. If I can offer my time, insight or assistance to the LAL board on whatever matter needed, I would welcome the task in the most enthusiastic way possible.”
Boris is an Associate Professor of Art and the former Chair of the Art Department at Georgetown College. He has extensive exhibition experience nationally and internationally and was recently awarded the Frank F.
